Mel Chin

An incredible conceptual artist and activist, Mel Chin wanted to construct a public art installation that would draw attention to the climate crisis in a major way. Working closely with Chin, Times Square Arts, the Queens Museum, and Microsoft, Listen flooded Times Square in mixed reality to create Unmoored.

Using either the HoloLens or their phones (via web AR), visitors to Times Square could explore a future where climate change had gone unchecked, and Times Square was 26 feet under water. A naval traffic jam ensued, 26 feet above visitors, as boats of all sizes traversed the intersection, bumping into each other and eventually decomposing.

As Creative Director, I oversaw branding elements and copy across the event signage, web app, and HoloLens experience. I was also responsible for bringing this collaboration to life across Microsoft channels in video, written, and social media assets.
